MILLENNIUM 2099
A text MUD set in a megacity that was built vertically because the horizontal ran out. Ten corporations and ten gangs hold it between them; they do not sign treaties, they make arrangements. You arrive with no allegiance and very little money. Fight, trade, craft, run the Neura-Grid, or simply walk until the map runs out — it doesn't, but you are welcome to try.
Nothing here is canned
Every room is written the moment you look at it, by something that has already read the room's structure, your skills, and the weather. The corridor at dusk after a firefight is not the corridor you walked at noon. Nobody repainted it. The city simply had more to say the second time.
A city from one seed
The entire city unfolds from a single number, and keeps unfolding — walk toward the frontier and the world extends to meet you. No restart, no loading screen. The edge is already there when you arrive. It always had been. Nobody had got around to asking about it.
Skills, not levels
Twenty skills and a forty-perk tree. Rank is not a bonus to your dice; it is permission to attempt things a novice cannot. And you cannot buy your way up — the higher ranks are gated on having actually done the work. The skill tree does not believe in participation trophies.
Work, and consequences
Opportunity abounds for the enterprising willing to do the hard work — the hard work being retrieval, delivery, and the occasional quiet ending, for people who would rather not be seen. Take the job and the city takes notes: who hired you, who you crossed, and what the merchant three streets over now charges you.
The air here is cool, almost unnaturally so. Walls of polished chromasteel curve around you, reflecting the muted glow of a dozen server clusters. A low, persistent hum vibrates through the floor – the sound of raw data flowing. Three automated sentry turrets flank the central node.
Written on the spot by the Lens, from the room's structure, your skills, and the weather. The next visitor gets different prose.
